The Ontological Argument for the existence of God was first written by Anselm of Canterbury, pointing out that the maximally great being is God, anything grater, would in turn be God, therefore if he is conceivable, to be maximally great he has to exist, this idea was elaborated on most notably by Professor Alvin Plantinga, points out that if the existence of God is not a logically incoherent, would make his existence absolutely necessary by God’s own definition. In fact, his modal ontological argument is considered one of the most articulate and encircling arguments for the existence of God to date.
